Happy Christmas

It has been a peaceful day in our house. Christmas Eve usually is. The schools have been off for a few days now and Sam, Annie, James and Alistair have fallen into a holiday routine, which involves staying in their PJ's for as long as possible and each doing their favourite things, giving us the opportunity to also do the things we like doing most. My favourite things today were a run (not much running I have to admit, with the wind and all), lots of cups of coffee and knitting. The weather has not been very friendly but I think we got away lightly this time, compared to the storm damage down South. Life is of course not all bliss, the bickering between various kids continues and the washing still piles up but all in all, we are having a great time.

We finally made our Lebkuchenhaus this evening, it is a beauty (beauty of course being in the eye of the beholder).

There wasn't enough icing sugar to make a good thick meringue paste to hold it all together but some glass scaffolding and patience did wonders in the end.

Secretly, I would love a perfect little house with dainty decorations, all neat and tidy but this is the kids work of art and I don't get involved. I can't help giving some advice but naturally this falls on deaf ears or is being interpreted as being overly critical.

I felt a bit mean for pointing out to Sam that his side of the roof looked as if a 5 year old had decorated it... but said is said and I can only apologise.

I know the kids will be heart broken when we start nibbling away... but there is nothing better than hard Lebkuchen dipped in cold milk.

All that is left to do now is to sit in front of the fire and relax some more.

Before I go, a great big thank you to all of you, my readers. I have been enjoying the first few months of blogging and look forward to a new year of sharing. I have discovered so many great blogs and have met kinds souls. I can't wait to discover what still awaits me in the world of blogging.
