Oh, Be Clever's "Lost You" - Song Review

Utah-based Oh, Be Clever have certainly made quite an impression with their electro-pop/rock releases since unexpectedly stumbling across their tragically brilliant "Next To You" earlier this year. Since then, the talented duo have performed live during SXSW '14 and released second single "My Religion". Thank goodness they have returned with what may be their best cut yet, the heartbreaking yet powerful "Lost You".

The new song, said to be inspired by an on-again/off-again relationship which lasted over four years, leans more towards the heavy alternative rock side than did the pop overload of their first offering. While the songwriting details some admitted wrongdoing on the part of the vocalist, it is the delivery of Brittany Shields that makes the effort truly shine, at times coming off sounding like Hayley Williams of Paramore.

"Lost You" is the type of track where everything just sounds right. From the flawless vocal performance, seriously it's truly spectacular, to the revealing lyrics and the impressive instrumentals, all three and a half minutes have the potential to takeover radio at any moment. "It kills me to think that she's feeling your touch, the way I did when, we'd lie in your bed, naked all weekend," Shields belts about possibly regretting the decision to let go of her former flame.

Oh, Be Clever are quickly shaping up to be one of the most innovative indie acts on the scene right now. People really need to take notice. With only three officially released singles, each showcases a different, unique blend of inspirations across many genres. They can do dance, they can do pop, they can rock out, but most importantly, all the material has a legitimate reason to exist. "Lost You" is the band's latest success. It has an effortless feel, it demands attention from the moment it begins, and may be the song that truly sums up exactly what kind of act the duo really is.
